Theme/Concept

About the freedom that a woman wants to feel within her body. Rejoicing at the chance given to her to be however she wishes to be while growing up. In the process she consciously witnesses the evolution of her bodily form while growing up. Hence, the concept also explores the idea of celebration of the same. Through the traditional process of quilting, which is called Godhadi in Maharashtra, she communicates with her own self and practices the idea of being mindfully present with her body while it experiences the changes. The Quilt is the canvas for her expression of freedom and a blessing for the next generation

Godhadi has received a lot of attention by the artist community in the past few years. Designers have made intense research in the traditional art as it is based on the idea of sustainability through upcycling of old cloth. It also provides employment to the female artisans from the villages that contribute in keeping the art alive. Godhadi becomes not just their source of income but also their space for expression. Traditionally the Godhadi is passed down from generation to generation as it lasts for decades. Hence the process of making involves love and care for the next generation, giving a new life to the old clothes, in a way interacting with the past and creating the time space for oneself that makes way for introspection.
